colorful Koi Tattoos

The popularity of Koi tattoos is growing everyday. So what makes these brightly colored fish so popular? Many just like their ornamental beauty and bold colors, while others choose a koi because of the symbolism that it represents. So what does this magnificent fish represent?

Koi originated in China and they were introduced into Japan in the 1800's. According to Chinese legend, it is believed that if a koi succeeded in climbing the Yellow River falls to "Dragon's Gate" then it would be transformed into a dragon. This symbolizes worldly aspiration and advancement. In Japan they are considered a manly symbol and according to legend, if a koi climbs the waterfall bravely, and if they are caught, they will lay on the cutting board completely still facing their death bravely just as a samurai would. Based on that legend, the Japanese associate koi with perseverance and strength.

Koi fish are very powerful and energetic and they can swim against the current to reach food or spawning ground. This fact also has bearing on whether people have their koi tattoo swimming up or down. It is said that if the fish is swimming upstream then you have overcome a hardship during trying times. If it is swimming down, then you are struggling with a hardship. However others translate this to mean that a koi tattoo swimming upstream represents a very independent person that has very little concern for what others think. You would rather be your own person and face the challenge of swimming against a hard current than to conform to the rules of society. This is an act of power and you cannot be deterred by anything.

Koi symbolism is also associated with:

* Good luck
* Wealth
* Bravery
* Independence
* Masculinity
* Power and perseverance

There are many varieties of koi and they vary in color and design. Many people believe that the color of the koi tattoo should be in harmony with you and your surroundings. Some of the more popular breeds and their colors are listed below:

* Asagi - Light blue top surface with red underside
* Bekko - Red, white or yellow with black markings
* Butterfly Koi - These come in many colors but are known for their long fins and slender bodies
* Goshiki - Black background with white, red, brown and light blue markings
* Hikari Moyomono - Two colored fish with one of the colors being metallic
* Kin Gin Rin - Reflective scales make these fish shiny metallic colored
* Kohaku - White with red markings
* Koromo - Ordered scales with blue edges
* Ogon - Single colored
* Showa - Black with red and white
* Taisho Sanshoku or Sanke - White, red and black
* Tancho - White with a red spot on its head
* Utsurimono - Black and red or white or yellow

In addition to their symbolic meanings, these tattoos are some of the most beautiful works of art that you can have on your body. Many people add water, a waterfall or flowers to their design. Another popular alternative is to have two or more koi swimming together. The possibilities are endless, and no matter what the reasoning or symbolism is behind your koi tattoo, this is one design that you will truly love forever.

The Beauty of Fairy Tattoo Designs

When we think of woods, forests, and nature, we are reminded of fairies. Fairies are appealing for children because of their mystery, beauty, and whimsicality. They breed rich imagination as well as bring joy and hope among its believers. This reminder of innocence and simplicity is what prompts people, especially women, to get themselves fairy tattoo designs. Fairies carry with them an air of elegance and youthful exuberance, explaining why so many people are instantly drawn to it. Whether from mythology, literature, or plain TV shows, they are always portrayed as that certain being that radiates with minimalistic beauty.

Often times, fairy tattoo designs come with high use of colors or single-toned images, bright colors and stars or dark inks and tribal designs, the use of nature in the background or as a fellow subject, etc. With the latter, they're commonly positioned on flowers, mushrooms, or leaves. At times, even with tiny butterflies or other minuscule creatures of the forest. They are often posed with their wings spread out or at least part-open either standing up, lying on their stomachs, kneeling, or sitting down while hugging their knees. Depending on personal preferences, you could go with simplistic designs that come with great emotion or those that offer a sense of playfulness to it.

There are numerous templates available for fairy tattoo designs especially since they're a popular choice among women. These however come at slightly expensive rates because of its use of intricate detail, a careful play of lines and shades, and of its being highly stylized. With this as the case, it would be best to think out of the box and try coming up with your own design. After all, you wouldn't want to be having the same tattoo as many others simply because you picked it out of a catalogue or the Internet.

If you aren't that confident in your skills in the creative process, you could search for fairy tattoo designs that you really like then find an artist who specializes in it. The same way there are artists who specialize in tribal designs, anthropomorphic images, multi-colored shading, etc. When you have, inquire if he or she could customize it for you. It's a better option when you want to make the tattoo more meaningful rather than letting it become a mere accessory of the body. Try printing a style out then do a dry run by wearing a henna version of the design first.

One great thing about fairy tattoos is that rich symbolism and meaningful interpretations accompany fairy tattoo designs. Its symbolic versatility allows us to craft the fairy into something that is truly relevant and significant to us. As earlier mentioned, people choose fairy tattoos because of its beauty or for what it represents. Many feel like fairies remind them of youth and of childhood memories. As for a symbol of hope, fairies project the personification of human wishes and desires, fate and destiny. Carrying a fairy tattoo captures the essence of it being a magical being that offers its wearer lots of confidence, comfort, and happiness.

Tattoo and Body Art of Africa

Body Art may have become a popular fashion statement in the recent times, but its origin has been traced to many ancient times and has been very popular in different regions of the world among various cultures and tribes. It has been seen that every culture and race in the world has something unique about it that gives it a unique identity. Body Art or Tattoo has been one such form which has been exclusive to that particular tribe or race of people.

Men and women both sported such body art and the designs and patterns created were usually symbolic of their gods or other divine forms that they used to worship and follow. Some designs were also believed to have marked battles or ancestral relationships with their gods or forefathers and sometimes of reincarnation. Women would get tattooed, often after their marriage to mark their dedication to their husband and children. Thus a persons body art used to tell a lot about the person.

However the body art patterns differed from region to region and from tribe to tribe. This is because every civilization has its own cultures and traditions, and accordingly has its specific symbolization which were depicted through tattoos and body art. For example the tattoos of African origin differed greatly from those of the Mayan or Polynesian origin. But in the modern day as the cast and race barriers have broken down, the different patterns and designs of different origins are being merged to create great tattoos and body art. The art styles of every ancient civilization is being studied and worked upon to create excellent patterns and styles for the latest trends.

The most popular style is the Celtic style which was of the U.K origin. Since Christianity was the religion of the founders of the Celtic style, the designs and patterns are greatly influenced by this religion. It has many designs of the holy Cross and also the tree of life and the design of the Holy Trinity. Celtic tattoos are mostly simple in design and hence are completed in one sitting at the most. They look great in dark ink.

Similarly the African body art has also been driving the modern fashion industry by craze. This is because of its unique symbolism and rugged styles and looks. Most of the African tattoo arts include:

o Symbols of ancient African Gods which were believed to be saviors and guardians of the human souls from evil and unnatural spirits. These were especially worn by the people of the tribes to guard themselves against the evil spirits throughout their life.

o Sometimes the tattoos also depicted scarification and supernatural states of the humans. They were tattooed to signify power of the inner self of man.
